"The Elephant..." March 2009

This is about how a marriage dies, lack of communication.

As always, please do remember to leave a comment under the poem, where I first posted this poem, see link below.  And thanks in advance.

The Elephant is Crushing the Life Out of You

Sunshine like a light is reflecting through your eyes.
Teardrops glistening, as we have at last said goodbye.

Walking away.
Side stepping the issues that like a "white elephant" filled the doorways.

Walking around "the elephant", we say goodbye.
There is no need to wonder why.

The heart is fickle.
Time has made it brittle.

Now someone must sweep away the fragments of our life.
The "white elephant" has torn the heart worse than a man yielding a sharp knife.

Now you hear the steps fading, leaving you behind.
Fading into the night, even as the "white elephant" fills your heart & mind.

Was it money, was it circumstance, was the trials to great.
Or was it me that stuck your heart with the blow that caused the final break.

Sunshine shinning all around, the sky is blue.
Out of no where come the words "I am leaving you"

Words not said by you, words felt more than spoken.
Promises, commitments have now been broken.

Life has finally won out.
There is no need to cry, no need to shout.

No words can come from the grave you know.
The last steps around "the elephant" have set you free to go.

The last steps have fallen silent,"till death do we part"
My part has been fulfilled, but not your heart.

Departing when you were needed. Blinded by the pressure's of this life.
So soon a life has ended. Who can know if it was "the white elephant" or the knife.

Sunshine dances over the morning dew.
All the tombstone shine as new.

Another has entered into the land of the dead.
There is no more that can be said.

For tonight words have lost their meaning, there are no tears to dry.
Trials of through the years, have made the tears of the heart to cry.

But now the well has run dry.
No tears from the eyes can come, when the heart has been bled dry.

And now you know that it is when the heart beats no more.
That "the white elephant" has walked out the door.

Stepping slow, stepping steady...
The "white elephant" walks out the door...are you ready?
