Summer's Long Past

Summer time, summer time, summer time.

The birds sing so sweetly, butterflies shine in the sun.

Bumble bee's, and dragon flies, sing through the day, through the night the crickets chime.

We all stay out all night sing about the lady who swallow a fly, we laugh, sing and run...

We get up early, pick blackberries, till noon, get out the churn, the ice, and gather all around.

All the cousins are home, all the neighbors too, soon we'll have fresh home-made ice cream.

Everyone gets a turn, turn the handle, turn it fast, add a little more ice, everyone's sitting on the ground

Get a dish, get a cone, get a spoon, we'll all have a home-made ice cream.

The stars start to come out, soon the lighting bugs, start lighting up the yard, we grab a mason jar.

As the moon begins to light the night sky, we run and play, hide and seek our favorite night time game.

Parent's begin to call, it's time to go, time to come in, hurry up and get in the car.

Summer time, it's a time for fun, it's time for friends and family, too soon Autumn leaves begins to call out our name.

Summer time, a time for work, a time for play, a time for laughter, a time for making memories.

These are just some of mine, skipping rocks, playing in the creek, singing about the "old lady who swallowed a fly.

Such a long time ago, we picked blackberries, went fishing, sold rocks, stones and gems, went without shoes all summer long, and never asked why...

So many memories, so long ago, how soon we all grew up and entered the Autumn of life.

Scattered like fallen leaves blown in the cooling winds of Autumn, so soon summer is past.

How far away the summer of our childhood, memories forever lost to time, how soon we'll pay the piper's fife.

Memories a treasure of the heart shine so brightly as as the snow reflects the colors of summers that went by too fast...
