A Childhood Friend but a Memory
Long Ago Best-Friend
Walking hand in hand, we laughed many a day away.
We ran all around the town.
Window shopping, then to the library to check out a pile of books'"
Stopping by your dad's shop we tried on the colorful sombrero's ignoring other's silly looks.
The sombreros were so big, so colorful, we danced around and around.
Till at last your dad said we must go out, so we went out to the Indian mound.
Taking a sheet of cardboard, we slid down the mound over and over.
I wonder sometimes now, if a disturbance really we were.
Leaving the Indian mound we went to the river.
Walking along the banks, we listen as the twilight begins to fall, laughing we never shiver.
Not knowing soon, our friendship will be but a distant memory, due to years and distance.
Best-friends separated due to bankruptcy, your dad's business failed, so away he did prance.
Taking away, my dearest and best friend, soon, my family left too.
Moving, and shoveling boxes, papers and bags, your address from me soon flew.
Losing contact, the years passed away, one right after another, but still at times I remember you.
A friend to me, you were, my best in a place that was to me strange and new --
Though we may never meet again, I'll never forget my best-friend, of long ago.
Though time and distance now has made many memories, fade, I will always be thankful you were my best-friend, so long ago --
