Moderation

Moderation in all things this is something that is good to learn early in life. It will save you a lot of aggravation in many areas.

Particularly in areas concerning weight, and finances, moderation is the key to being able to enjoy the things that you have. It is also one of the keys, to obtaining the things that will make your life more enjoyable as you grow older.

You give your children a head start in this area when you teach them portion control. Yes, even young children do need to learn portion control. Because over eating rarely begins overnight, it is something that develops over time, it is a habit. A habit that is ingrained through repeatedly doing the same thing over and over again.

Teaching portion control need not be painful. If you will use smaller sized plates, bowls, cups and drinking glasses, in time it will feel like you are overeating when you use a regular dinner sized plates.

If you have not however already been using portion control within your home, it is not too late to start.

You, may find that it is easier to begin portion control, by making just enough to go around, then fix everyone's plates yourself, to make sure that everyone gets a little of what you've made for dinner.

Going for an after dinner walk can also become a habit, that may help you to keep from gaining a lot of weight, or if you are already obese may help you to begin to shed unwanted pounds.

If you plan on drinking lots of water throughout the day, this may help keep you from over eating later on at meal times. Also drinking plenty of water may help you to feel better.

The reason is because your body is made up of about 70 percent water. Which means when you do not drink enough water you may become dehydrated.

When you become dehydrated, this causes you to not feel well, it may also make you feel like you are hungry when you are not hungry, which may lead you to overeat. Also not drinking enough water can cause you to have many aches and pains you may not have otherwise.

Moderation is the key to all things. It is also something that is important to learn early in life because it is often harder to learn as we grow older, and more set in our ways.

Moderation in all things will save you lots of grief, in more areas than just in maintaining a healthy weight. It may also help prevent you from having problems in other areas of your life.

For example exercise is good for you, but over exercising is something that will cause injuries, and also stress on your body that moderate within reason exercise would not have caused.

Portion control is something that is helpful and beneficial for everyone from young children to older adults. (Newborns or infants are unlikely to be guilty of overeating at any time, because their bellies will not hold but a certain amount.) Some toddler's however, will overeat, especially if it is a food that they particularly like, such as cake or candy. (Both of which are calorie rich and nutrient free foods, or which have very little nutrient value because of the high sugar content.)
