Leaving the Past Behind, (contest entry for 2011)

This was written for the Shakespearean Sonnet Poetry Contest - $100. This was a non-exclusive poem.

Leaving the Past Behind,
A New Life

Shadows linger, softly, as I call out
Memories, glow as bright as noon day sun

Haunting whisper's echo revealing doubt
Turning around I see that we are done

Walking further away how soon we fall
Listening in vain for words spoken low

Rose petals fall silently as we call
Footsteps, walking, swiftly hoping to know

Reaching out, love was extended to you
Teardrops, fallen dry, forever you know why

Forgotten memories linger so true
Lightening opening the darkest night sky

Yesterday, I listened to soft words fall
Today, I know that you gave me your all
