Unwanted Sibling (Villanelle)

This was a writing assignment, however, this is when I came to accept some things that are are at times unbearably harsh but true.

Writing assignment  Poetry Assignment: Write a Villanelle

Unwanted Sibling

I open my eyes, and see you are gone
I close my eyes, so tight, memories fade
(I listen, intently for words once known.)

Snowflakes shimmer in the twilight of life.
Arbitrary silence walks in, where you walked out
I open my eyes and see you are gone.

Whisper's in the night air, call out to me
Lasting, dashing, cutting words flung so free
(I listen, intently for words once known.)

Crushing words finalize, a broken heart
Entrance forbidden, the door is slammed shut
I open my eyes, and see you are gone

Intently, I listened, as the wind blew
Growing weary, I fade away alone
(I listen, intently for words once known)
An only child perhaps I should have been
An orphan found amongst true siblings shines
I open my eyes and see you are gone
(I listen, intently for words once known)
