Fragments Left Behind
Rebellious Child
Cracked Ice, faded stained glass windows-
Fragmental lives, teardrops shed, broken hearts cast low-
Words shouted by a child...
So soon will echo through the mind of the child, words so cruel, so wild-
"You do not love me..."
Words flung out at me.
One wish had this child.
One wish," run with the wild"
Invincible, I am claims the child.
Fragmental lies, told-
Listening to lies so broad, and so bold-
The child runs out into the night...
The darkness soon shows its might...
Turning in fright this child runs, searching for those who claimed all was well...
Searching the child will soon find, friends who have long since entered into hell.
Frightened yet again, the child will run far into the night.
Searching with all their might-
Turning the child will begin to search for the stained glass windows,
The stain glass windows, long cracked from rebellions blows...
Turning, searching the child looks for the paths that lead home.
Roads, twisted and turned the child did many years roam
Learning one day too late, of the tears that were shed...
Heartache unspoken, fragmented lives, love it was not dead.
But the angry child, ran so far, ran so fast.
Words shouted, soon would echo, in memories of the distant past.
Running the child would not hear.
Rebelling the child did not know death was ever near.
"You don't love me..." These words were shouted by the angry child.
But my child I loved you enough to warn you to never run wild.
My child I tried to guide you along the rocky pathway.
My child for you I will always pray.
My child I loved you so much, that the stains you see in the church windowpanes, they are mine.
My child, I loved you so much, that the cracks in the windowpanes were left as my soul did pine.
My child, I loved you so much, that the brightly stained church windowpanes are faded due to my tears.
My child I loved you so much, that I tried to hold on but one more day.
But my child, please remember when the death angel comes there will be no delay.
My child, for you I have prayed, for you I prayed that God would make a way.
My child for you I prayed that I might see you again, someday.
My child did you not know with your words you broke my heart.
My child, I loved you then and I love you now, but I had to part.
Too soon, I suppose I have gone away.
Too soon, I did not get to stay.
But my child for you I did pray.
Perhaps one day my child, you'll see-
Perhaps one day my child your heart will be set free.
My child, see the fading stains, see the cracks in the window glass.
My child soon this will pass...
My child I loved you then and I love you still.
Pride and rebellion, it was your will.
I loved you then, and I love you even now, did you really not know?
I loved you then, and I love you now. But I have to part.
My prayers for you they came from my heart.
I trusted you, but secretive you wanted to be.
Your heart you wanted to be set free.
Soon your dream of running away, you made it complete.
You thought this to be some great feat,
Laughing you would look back and say you'd never be back.
Laughing you thought you'd never lack.
Too soon you'd know...
But would it be before I had to go?
My child I'd love to stay, and wait.
But my child, all I can do is pray, the hour is late.
My time is short, and your ears are filled with lies.
Lies told to you by those who can't know a mother's heart cries...
Running away, you ran. Thinking you'd be far enough away.
But my child, did you not think for you I'd pray?
My child, please don't delay-
I have run that path you're taking today.
My child, I tried so hard to wait.
But I knew my fate.
But my child, I know you'll be okay.
Because my child for you I have prayed.
Mercy and grace, mercy and grace-
Prayers I have prayed they'll keep pace.
My child one day I'll see your face.
My child one day, we'll meet again in that great place.
My child, the cracked window pain, the faded stains on the church window pain, it was but for a time.
My child, it is for you these words rhyme.
Think my child what words you are saying.
Think my child, even as I'm praying.
Because my child, soon I will be gone away.
My child your words will echo throughout all eternity.
But remember my child; my prayers go straight to the one who abides with me.
My child I know to where I go.
My child my prayer for you is to also know...
