Hitchhiking....a poem from 2009

Hitchhiking

Once a long while ago.
I took a walk, just wanting to leave, you know.

Having no vehicle, no money, I stuck out my thumb.
I was young, excuse perhaps, but still it was dumb.

I walked a little each day.
Never planning to stay.

One town just like every other one, to my dismay.
I had thought I could do better.

So I ran from town to town.
Acting the clown.

Looking for someone to love me.
Looking for someone to hold me.

Sticking out my thumb,
I was so dumb.

True love is never found.
When your feet are fast pounding the ground.

Running from town to town, acting the clown.
Sticking out a thumb, expecting a wedding gown.

Dirty and grimy, it is how I was found.
All my dreams pounded into the ground.

Running in around looking for you.
Laughing, you pick me up again, saying "I was always for you true".

Washing away the grime.
We'll walk together this time.

Take my hand, together we'll stand.
Buy a car, rent a truck, we'll travel this land.

We'll not be dumb.
We'll ride together, never sticking out a thumb.
