Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo,
Cinco de Mayo,

The fifth day of May,
Oh, what a day, to commemorate those who stood in the way.

Four thousand Mexican soldiers, outnumbered fought vilantly two hours
Forcing the French leader "Charles Louis Napoleon Bonaparte" to dispair.

The "Battle of Puebla" was won but for a moment on that day in 1862.
Returning in the year 1863, the large French army did set up rule.

But "valor" had been hard won in the year 1862.
Mexican pride sustaining those under foreign rule.

Cinco de Mayo,
Cinco de Mayo,

The fifth day of May in the year 1862.
Laughing as we celebrated this day first under French rule.

From 1863 to 1867, we sat under foreign rule.
Remembering the "Battle of Puebla" we stood stead as the mule.

Laughing we celebrated Cinco de Mayo,
First under French rule, didn't you know?

General Zaragoza left his priestly studies, to lead four thousand men to victory.
Born in Texas General Zaragoza became a National hero, to Mexico!

Cinco De Mayo,
Cinco De Mayo,

The fifth day of May.
Celebrated in Mexico, but should we not also celebrate in America.
This very important history making day.

No, it's not Independance Day,
Independance Day, is celebrated in September, can't you remember.

Slow of pace we may be.
Taking eleven years, to make the Spanish soldiers leave.

Be polite, be nice.
Isn't that what we have been told?

Suddenly, we remember that day.
Cinco De Mayo.
You know you can not stay.

You had not been defeated in fifty odd years. Mr. French man.
The United States, was involved in their own disputes.

You invaded with the newest equipment, the most modern of the time, it is true.
Despising the United States, fearing no one, soon it would be to your rue.

Assuming we would give up as easily as any European nation,
-you entered into our ports, from Vera Cruz, headed towards our capital.

Should you of listened to the English, and the Spanish too, perhaps you'd not be in rue.

Brightly in your French uniforms you marched in your pride.
Underestimating our well worn rags of simplicity.
Did no one tell you dear French man to save your "colors" till you ride?

Dusty we may of been, but shinning bright your uniforms made good targets.
"You didn't think we would notice?"

Need we of reminded you, this is our home.

You were just a visitor. We hate to show you the door, but you became such a pain...
Lost is what you hoped to gain.

America whom you despised Mr. Emperor Napoleon III, may of been a little busy.
But when they saw such a pest as you, they turned quickly to help push you out the door. Because we're friends you see.

Perhaps if you had learned to behave we'd of invited you to tea.
But instead we felt compelled to tell you to go to sea.

Cinco De Mayo
Cinco De Mayo

We defeated you once,
You set up rule a little later, forgetting who we were.

General Phil Sheridan, a Union soldier would make sure we had the supplies,
to send you home, allowing American soldiers to enlist, it's no lie.

Sharing our patriotic pride, we marched hand in hand to victory.
Mexico and America, United if but for a moment.

Fourteen months after the "Battle of Puebla" there was the "Battle of Gettysburg" both battle's won a victory.

Cinco De Mayo
Cinco De Mayo

The fifth day of May.
Though we may disagree on immigration, these days.

You know we love you America.
This is why we rush to volunteer...

Pearl Harbor, Persian Gulf War, we'll cross the border just for you.
Because a friend never leaves a friend to face an enemy all alone, this is true.

Cinco De Mayo,
Cinco De Mayo,

The fifth day of May.
Come and celebrate a national holiday, meant for two.

Two countries that is,
Cinco De Mayo, a day you'll not want to miss.

Mexican parade's will march, but remember the American Legion of Honor marched in the Victory Parade in Mexico City.

Cinco De Mayo
Cinco De Mayo

The fifth day in May.
Get ready to celebrate do not delay.

Remember who your friends are America,
The door of the Casa is always open to friends.

Cinco De Mayo
Cinco De Mayo

Let's remember while we may disagree,
we're still friends, you and me...
