"Why Should You Be Prepared to Start Your Own Business??"
We all know that the economy changes frequently. Fashions and fads can change without warning it seems.
Also a company can decide to close up shop without notice. And even if a company does pay you a certain amount in severance pay, I can almost guarantee that this amount will not be enough to take you thru retirement.
So what is a good solution to the uncertainty of the times? Well a good solution would be to be constantly thinking of things you can do as a business (well maybe not constantly but do so on a regular bases)
You should also start trying your hand at a few odd jobs as you can, so you can see if these might be something you would like to do. Something you could do well as your own home business.
This will also provide you a little extra money to use to save for a rainy day. Or to pay off any debts. (Like credit cards, student loans, etc.)
You will also be building a reputation as a business person. So you will want to make sure that any jobs you do you do them well. And that you have competitive prices with others in your area.
You also need to do some advertising. If you have no savings for advertising, then you will have to rely on word of mouth. And you will have to talk to people.
You need to let people know you will do odd jobs during certain hours, or that you have a product that you are selling. And invite people over so you can show them your products.
Or buy a camera that you can use to take pictures of your items that you are making and selling. And post it online. You can get started by using a free website service. Such as Freewebs.com.
Depending on your budget you may also try selling items or services thru other websites too.
Most people know about eBay now, but there are several other similar sites, like ibid.com kaboo.com, and Craig list. (this is just a very short sample)
You can use the above mentioned sites to sell off clutter around your home or to start selling items you are making. This would be a relatively inexpensive way to start a business.
You will want to keep good records for tax purposes. Also to see whether or not what you are thinking of as a business will really work to provide for you and your family.
You do not want to decide to start a business that you have no market for, and at the same time quit your regular job.
It is best you study the area you are in and start trying out a few things as you are able to do so. While you still have the security of a job.
The reason you want to have something that you know you can do and do well is because that this will give you the security and confidence if you ever need to rely on your own abilities to operate a business.
You may never decide to go into business full time for yourself, But by knowing how to start and operate your own business, you will always have that option open to you.
Also by becoming a lifelong learner you will keep the doors of opportunity open to you that close for others because they either do not apply themselves or think extra classes are a waste of time at their ages.
You will also be healthier and happier the more active you are, and taking classes, doing odd jobs, teaching or tutoring others can be a way to ensure that you are continually growing so you can live a full and rewarding life.
You do not have to start your own business but knowing that you have the skills to do so. Will help you to be more confident within your daily life.
