Are You "Sitting" Around "Looking" for a Fatal Encounter?
Are you actively working towards an early grave?
Maybe you have not really given any serious thought to your daily activities and what you do. Maybe you have, and maybe you've stopped smoking, drinking, and eating to excess. Maybe you have even started yourself on the latest organic diet that has been said to be of the most help and benefit to live a long life.
Maybe you have decided to begin a new exercise program, or enroll in a school or class in order to further develop your mind. 'Having read of the many studies that claim exercise and education seem to help delay the effects of aging.
Perhaps you have also started a new regime of herbs and vitamins to boost your immune system. Or maybe you've bought into the "detox" theories, and are using the latest potions to cleanse your colon. Amazing so many people are worried about how clean their colon is, when they might do better to worry about how clean their credit history is, but that's another story...
So moving on...we were discussing the possibility that you may actually be shortening your days, through some particular behavior that you are actively engaged in.
So what is this behavior you may be engaged in that may be leading you by the seat of your pants into an early grave?
Oh, so you caught that? I did say "seat of your pants".
So now you've guessed what the latest reports and news stories are talking about. Sitting for prolonged periods of time can be deadly.
Yes, you can shorten your life by sitting down. In addition to the multitude of other things can you can do. If you spend too much time sitting down you may shorten your life. Although if you run marathon's you may still shorten your life through a fall or heart-attack or any number of potential possibilities, for sake of space I'll not mention the potential man-holes, stray dogs, etc.
Because according to the latest study if you are upright you are less likely to die soon than if you are sitting.
Sitting for prolonged periods of times can lead to blood clots. Sitting can lead in particular to a condition called Deep Vein Thrombosis; this is a very serious condition. And truthfully this is a life-threatening condition.
A DVT is a blood clot that develops in the legs, when a blood clot develops in the legs it will go either to the heart, or the lungs. This is called a pulmonary embolism or (PE)
I will try to go into more depth on this topic in another article. But for now, I will leave you with the subject of how you may be contributing to shortening your life via way of sitting still too long.
