Sitting Around May Be Detrimental to Your Health
Deep Vein Thrombosis
Ok, yesterday I started to talk a little bit about how sitting around all day could possibly be detrimental to your health. And I said we'd just not mention all the other things that have been found be of some hazard to our health.
Now, as I said we are not going to discuss all the possible health hazards that we may each face, every day, just by waking up. In fact to discuss all the possible hazards available to us every day.
In fact it is my personal opinion that anyone who reads too many of the "latest" health reports may increase the chances that they will increase their personal stress levels to the point that they end up with very high blood pressure, that may lead to a heart attack or stroke.
So now that we have that out of the way, let's discuss this problem many of us have, that may lead many of us to an early grave.
This problem that is common to many of us, especially those of us who may be inclined to be sedentary, is directly related to how much time we spend sitting around, especially sitting around in cramped conditions.
Sitting can cause many health problems. This is especially true for those of us who are overweight, obese or just plain fat.
When we are sitting around our body is bent, not in a straight line. Just due to the nature of sitting. Even laying flat would be a better choice for us as far as circulation goes. *Provided of course that we are not spending many hours every day just lying around. That is not healthy either.
What makes sitting so bad though is the fact being when we are sitting, we may put pressure on blood vessels in such a way to cut off circulation. When we do this, our blood may pool up forming clots, these clots can lead to fatal consequences.
We are more likely to develop fatal blood clots the longer we sit in cramped conditions. Being overweight, obese or just plain fat increases our risk for many different ailments. Sitting around thinking about our possible health hazard for the day, may be the one thing that really is most detrimental to our health.
While we may make light of some things we are told will cause our demise, caution must be used in the case of blood clots. As these are very serious and can be deadly, especially if warning symptoms are ignored.
However the warning signs may be subtle or silent. This is true for about half the ones who experience a DVT.
There are some symptoms that should lead you to see your doctor immediately. These are sudden swelling in one or both legs, or even the arms. Pain that may occur only when standing or walking, the effect area may also have a warm feeling to the touch. Also you may experience a discoloration or redness to the skin, in the affected limb. Your leg may feel tired or fatigued. The veins may bulge out and be visible on the surface of the skin.
If any of these symptoms develop suddenly, after you've spent a great deal of time sitting around, then you do need to at the very least consult your doctor. Because if you develop a blood clot like this it can be life threatening left untreated.
I will end this article here, I may write a little more on this topic a little later.
I did want to mention though of all the possible things that can cause us harm, or even kill us any given day, this is one thing that we may be most able to prevent, just by getting up moving and around a little more often. Seriously bad news reports are more dangerous to our health than we may realize.
First we face the danger that the news reports are true, second we may spend too much time "sitting" at our computer, or in the library researching the information we've read or heard about.
Bad news is also not healthy for our minds or hearts. But this article was about DVT's not about the health impact of bad news reports, that many of us our bombarded with on a daily bases.
