Random Chatter About Treadmills, Workout's and Such
The Best Treadmill Workouts Are the One's You Do.
Best Treadmill Workouts
So you just went out and bought the latest treadmill in your local sports store, or maybe went to Sears, Wal-Mart or K-Mart to buy this marvelous invention that allows you to walk all day long, even all night, and if you're up for it even all week, practically non-stop. And remain in exactly the same location as where you started.
This could get intensely boring if you are accustomed to walking outside, or get bored easily. Even if you don't get bored easily, you will most likely find that walking or trotting even on your newest high priced toy grows old in time.
But since you spent all this money what are you going to do? What should you do? I mean seriously some of these machines can run several hundred dollars. Maybe more depending on where you have went to purchase this item for your health.
Ok, I do not have a treadmill, but I do however have its direct cousin or accomplice in the never ending array of machines marketed to gullible people looking for an easier way to shed unwanted pounds.
The contraption I happen to have is called a glider, and it is currently sitting very quietly on my back porch, having failed to keep my interest since we have moved into much smaller home. So I have to have it outside, there is no room inside this house.
That being said, I sat this on the back porch because our back porch faces a rather large field, with abundant wildlife.
This would seem to be the perfect location for this machine or another like it, say a treadmill, provided there are no electrical parts that could be damaged due to weather. An enclosed porch or sunroom would also make a very good place to set up an exercise area, complete with your favorite treadmill.
Where you locate your treadmill can determine how often that you use it. If you place it in a basement you don't really like going into, placing the treadmill down there is not going to help. Unless that you have the good fortune, and ability to also completely remodel the basement into an area that you love to go into, that could lead to many trips into the basement where you may come into direct contact with your treadmill.
The first thing you need to remember is this if you have a perfect schedule written out, and a perfect machine that you can use, and the perfect location, if you don't follow through with your plan you will fail. No question in my mind about that.
So my very first suggestion to you is this right after you obtain this marvelous invention called "The Treadmill", *that allows you to walk you for miles without ever leaving your room. Is to do this buy a large poster board, and write out your goals. So that you are able to check them off each day or draw a smiley face when each days goal has been reached. This will be number one.
Ok, number two after you have your wall poster put up so you can mark you daily goals, or at least have your poster made.
You need to decide exactly where that you want your machine, where it will be easy access, and so that you will use your expensive and large machine.
You may pick a corner of the living-room, den, or family room, maybe even the dining-room or kitchen (if your kitchen is very large), or a guest-room, porch, basement or some other reason.
After you have decided where you will locate your machine double check that there is enough room, all the way around. You do need space around your machine. For safety sake bare minimum.
Ok, third what you will want to have a scheduled time to use your machine, because if you are like me, you will find if you do not schedule time for this activity it will be put off, and you will have a very large and odd looking coat rack sitting in the corner.
Once your machine is covered in clothing or other items, it can become a very un-motivational item that you've acquired.
So make sure that number three on your list is a time and a schedule.
Then number four, you will want to think of some ways that you will not become bored. Americans have as a whole became fat due to the fact they have entertained themselves to death, or to obesity which ever you prefer it is the same general idea.
So what to do, well you can chose to not be bored, by considering this to be your own personal time. This may actually work for many Americans for one specific reason, that being many Americans are spoiled and they are also selfish, thinking of themselves first.
Now don't be mad, this is true, and it is normal for our culture. I mean look over at other countries that are very poor, how often have you as an individual taken the time to adopt a family from another country or even across your own town who is living in conditions that are deplorable at best. Horrible even, most of us if the truth were told just tune these things out, and go on our merry way worried about our own selves.
Not because we don't care, but because that the problems of others can be so much bigger than our own that we would rather just stay within our own comfort zones. A major problem to me may seem like trivia to someone else, but to yet another my problems would seem too big to help even a little.
It's human nature to want to avoid things we cannot fix or change or that we cannot see fast results.
Which leads me back to what I was talking about, "how to avoid boredom as you use your shiny new treadmill", you thought I forgot right?
So where were we, we were up to number four technically, so what can be done to fight this boredom we are facing.
Well we could read the horror news stories coming out of South America, where people have been kidnapped because they were fat. I won't indulge you with details; suffice it to say it was not good at all. Keeping that one news item in mind should help you avoid lots of boredom. But it could induce other problems such as severe anxiety.
Ok, I really should be serious especially since Associate Content is paying me so well for this article.
So realistically what can you do, well you can find the nearest window that has attractive scenery to view outside and place your treadmill there.
Because in theory you will or may have a different view every day to look out as you exercise. Especially true if you live in the city, you may see all kinds of people walking down the sidewalks, even stray animals. If you live in the country you may view the same things over and over, without ever really giving thought to the peace and serenity that you may find in viewing peaceful and serene country settings. This can be a good time to send just relaxing not thinking about any of the major stress in your life.
*You don't have to think to use a treadmill, just set the timer, make sure you have on sturdy shoes and start walking.
Ok, number five, what else might you find to encourage you to use the treadmill or other exercise machine you may have? Well if you are the type of person who enjoys watching a movie, you can select one that you like that is of a particular length of time, then while you watch the movie just walk on your treadmill. You'll get a workout, and get to view your favorite program. It will be a great way to do something productive for yourself and your health while at the same time enjoying a mindless pleasure.
Or you could instead put in an educational CD to learn a new language or skill while at the same time working on getting healthy. You may even end up having longer workouts.
Something else you need to remember is to make sure you drink plenty of water before and after you begin using your exercise machine so you do not become overheated or dehydrated.
You also need to do some basic warm-up exercises and cool down exercises. This may help prevent some injuries that can develop when you do not take the time to do warm-up stretches and cool down exercises.
Ok, I just re-read what I wrote, and noticed I've not really detailed a workout schedule for your brand new treadmill.
So let's see about a remedy for that problem. First, what you need to do is this. Plan when you will begin.
Next decide what warm-up stretches you will do, then these you need to do both before and after, to help prevent injuries. Plan to do warm-up with stretches for at least 20 minutes if at all possible. And cool down stretches for at least this same amount of time. Then start out using your treadmill machine for at least 15-20 minutes.
If possible do this same thing every day.
If not, then plan to do this every other day, as you work towards building up your endurance.
On the days that you are not using your treadmill workout machine, plan to do the stretches that you usually do, for at least thirty minutes, this will help keep you on a schedule of working out.
Something else you may want to do is have a friend to come over to exercise with you. Of course you will need to take turns using the exercise machine. Unless you have multiple exercise machines, if that is the case, maybe you need to use a different machine every day.
Exercise is good for most everyone, it can prevent some problems and even help keep some problems from getting worse, and may help you to rid yourself of other problems.
Buying a treadmill and then not using it for what it is intended for is not only a waste of time and effort it is a waste of money.
Listening to music may be relaxing and encouraging, or just watching the numbers that tell how many calories it is estimated you are burning.
But the only real thing that is going to work is to get a good pair of comfortable shoes, some nice thick socks, and then you just need to get up and do it. Maybe you have an old picture of yourself when you were in shape if so, have that blown up and work towards being the person in the picture once again.
Instead of having a picture to cart around with you to show people that yes you were once thin, even skinny before you managed to gain so much weight.
