An article I wrote first for Christians, who may be dabbling in occultic practices without thought, (as in immature Christians).
Secondly I wrote this article to remind people who it is behind occultic practices. Last this is written as a warning to how dabbling in the occult opens the door for not only you as an individual but also your decendants.
Dabbling in the occult is not only a bad testimony, it is also a major stumbling block for others, both saved, and unsaved.

The Ilusion that "Works"
Mind-Reading
Mind-reading is an illusion. It also has a great deal to do with the power of suggestion.
Those most likely to be taken advantage of in my opinion, in this area of the occultic realm are those who are hurting, lonely or discouraged in some way.
Mind-reading is an optical illusion of the mind. It may seem real for a couple of reasons. Number one reason most people are not very observant of just exactly what their demeanor, personality, clothing, surroundings say about them.
The second reason, and the reason that it can seem to work is some people are very observant. Paying attention to the behaviors of those around them, and to patterns commonly found amongst different people, or groups of people.
Above I indicated that this is related to occultic practices. This is in fact true to an extent; it can also be a gimmick to take someone's money, or to convince someone to do something they would not of.
When someone tells you that they can read your mind, and then wants to prove that they can via way of having you "pick a card, any card" from a deck of cards, it is NOT mind-reading contrary to popular opinion. Neither is "telling" someone to "think of a number". Things like this are optical illusions of the mind, and also related to the power of suggestion, and can related directly back to satanic influences.
I will let you in on a little secret; most anyone can be taught how to "read minds". How well they are able to actually do this depends on their ability to observe.
Careful observation can tell you a lot about a person, a place, a pattern.
Satan is a master of deceit and illusions. He is also a very careful observer, and has taken quite a lot of time to study mankind. Because of this he can with some deal of accuracy predict what may happen in someone's life if they do something. Based on a predictable pattern, that has been observed over a period of time.
The power of suggestion if very real, and can be used to convince someone that someone else has the ability to "read their mind".
Mind-reading is faked in the sense that it is possible to cause someone to "believe" or "think" that they are "thinking on a particular topic" through the "power of suggestion".
The "power of suggestion" is used every single day. How? You may ask. Well look around, look especially at product advertising.
Food products are a good example of "suggestive advertising" (power of suggestion). Next time you see a commercial or see a billboard, advertising your "favorite" sandwich. Look at how many "words" are used to advertise that sandwich and how colorfully the advertisement is.
Sometimes words are used to put a thought into someone's head. For example,*"how would you like to have a slice of hot apple pie topped with vanilla ice-cream". When this sentence is used your mind starts thinking about hot apple pie, and ice-cream, this especially holds true if someone happens to like apple pie with ice-cream.
Now before someone mentioned apple pie and ice-cream you may not have even been thinking anything at all about apple pie or ice-cream.
Ok, now sometimes a suggestion is made just through pictures, for example a vacation retreat, or even the same apple pie and ice-cream I mentioned can be advertised through appealing pictures.
This is also a way to put a suggestion into someone's mind.
Something else that may put a thought into someone's mind is "scent". This can be anything from the smell of flowers to foods, to garbage, to chemicals, to a multitude of other things.
"Mind-Reading" can be and is very often "faked" due to the power of suggestion, and illusion, also observation. It is not something that anyone needs to be actively engaged in. Because of the fact being, this is opening a door to occultic practices.
Once someone opens the door to the occult, they have opened themselves up to many devices of the devil, and to many things that are not good. And it will lead to many problems not only for themselves, (the individual) but also for those around them, (their family, friends, and associates).
How it affects others is through direct influence.
Every individual has a "presence" or an "influence" in the lives of someone. We can use this influence for good or for bad. It is up to each individual to decide to either be a good influence or a bad one.
For anyone who professes to be a Christian, engaging in games such as "mind-reading" or "fortune-telling" is something that is more than just a bad testimony; it is also a stumbling block to others, or a hindrance. It will also lead to many problems over a period of time. It is very unwise.
For anyone who does not profess to be a Christian, it is still unwise due to the fact being that these types of things make a mockery of you. Yes, a mockery, and if you are also "paying money" for the "privilege" of having your money separated from you. If you also are someone who is or is near financial instability, then this is a doubly unwise idea for you.
Gullible people, hurting people, and lonely people are the ones that feed fuel to these types of industries, "fortune telling", "mind-reading", and various other activities in this line.
