Someone Danced on My Grave Today
Today, I was buried, buried over yonder way.
Buried in a place I never knew a place distant and far away.
How I died, it is a mystery, a mystery to me.
You see I was just standing over by yonder tree.
Standing over by yonder tree, when I saw this parade'"
A parade just for me, I thought it was some charade.
But no, they called out my name, and they began to dig.
Digging a grave just for me, using shovels, and using some sort of rig.
Then I saw a hearse driving along it was going so slow, so I stood and watched it's every turn.
Turning onto the old road, the hearse did slowly drive the windy narrow road, even as the sun did begin my cheeks to burn.
Fascinated, I watched as the coffin was carried, and placed under the burgundy tent.
I watched as a van pulled alongside, taking out so many pretty flowers, I watched as seats were set, as a preacher did vent.
I watched as the people dried their eyes.
I watched as the people said their goodbyes.
Watching I saw you place flower petals on the casket.
Watching you, I meant to ask you what it was you carried in that basket.
But you turned away, never seeing me.
You turned away, never seeing me.
Turning all around, I see the cars, the hearse have left.
Turning around I see the leaves begin to fade and fall, I see the gravestone placed.
Walking over I read the stone, my name it is clear.
My name it is on the stone, turning I hear someone begin to cheer.
Laughing I know it's me.
Finally I'm free.
Lifting my body, so light, I dance.
Dancing on air, dancing on my grave, I know at a glance.
White clouds begin to descend, stairs soon I see.
Laughing I twirl around once and again, because I know I'm free.
The tree it's fallen down some time ago.
No one comes by my grave, I died so long ago, you know.
But every now and then I look down and see that faded stone.
I see the prints in the sand, and I know truly I was never alone.
Today, I danced upon my grave.
But it was only yesterday to Him my heart I gave.
Free now from so many burdens and woes, I walk softly, over the petals that were laid.
Rose petals, so fragrant and sweet, roses that line the Heaven's pasture, over by the gate'"
