My Dearest Friend
Summer Renewal

Summer that's one of my favorite times of the year-
Everything fresh and not to old, spring washed away winter's tear.

Early summer is best; it's when life is brightest and most full of cheer.
Like childhood dreams, early summer shed's not many a tear.

Summer warmth forgets, winter's cold and bitter days.
Mid-summer soon sends the suns healing rays.

Ray's of sunshine, melting away the sorrows of yesterday.
Brightening up the soul of the one who wishes to forget many a dreadful day-

Summer brings hope, renewed dreams, warmth to the darkest soul.
Summer reminds us to work still while we've time to toil.

Summer brings laughter, and smiles, and children running on the sand.
Summer nights, bring childhood memories, chatting on the porch swings, chasing fireflies; summer memories for me belong to some other land.

Summer a time of beauty, a time of youth, summer it is one of the best times of the year.
Yet so soon our summer is gone, just as our lives are fast gone away, like the last dried tear.

Words spoken in haste, assumptions made, insecurities magnified.
How soon a relationship with another we find has died.

Hurt feelings, prideful ways, believing many a cruel lie, words delve deep into the soul every time.
Yet, how we forget, the pain we cause other's when we forget but for grace we'd be guilty of the same crime.

Looking ourselves in the mirror we smile and chide.
Boasting of tomorrow, we forget once again from truth there is nowhere to hide.

Summer it's coming again; soon we'll open our doors wide.
Looking out we'll see many a soul on a downward slide.

Perhaps, even the one in the mirror, that looks back so often at me.
The apostle claimed he was chief, if that be so, perhaps, the queen I be.

Summer it brings forth warmth, light and cheer.
But as the light shines, the stains show through, as a shiny tear.

Summer brightens and lifts the soul, this is true.
But even as the sun shows the stains, soon we'll be washed of all our rue.

Summer, it is the time for splashing in the lake.
Time for balloons and birthday cake, time to remember what's at stake...

Summer cheer, soon it will be hear.
Fishing poles, swimming holes, picnic on the ground, soon He'll wipe away the last shiny tear.

Yesterdays gone, tomorrow may never come, today, it is truly the best time of year.
Blessed are we when we truly hear.

Past summer's spent tanning, spent riding from town to town.
Never again, can we go back to the days of yester year, silly clown.

Yet, still so many choose to believe they may live in the past.
But today it is all we have, like summer our lives will pass away ever so fast.

Summer it is a time to be thankful for many blessings.
But my dearest friend, truly today is the only day you may truly His praises sing.

Sing today, be thankful today, because tomorrow my friend yours may not.
Summer it is coming soon, but my dearest friend, what have you forgot?
