St. Patrick...Set Out to Win a Pagan Nation a poem I wrote in 2010

This was an assignment, "St. Patrick's Day" poems, I wrote it to encourage people to remember to share the gospel with the lost, even with people who have not been so nice to you, when possible.

St. Patrick...Set Out to Win a Pagan Nation

"Recidivism"...How Soon We Forget...Must We Fall so Easily? yet Again?

Born in Wales around about the year 385 AD was a pagan by the name of Maewyn. Not a Saint was he.
He was a pagan, born and bred. Yet at sixteen, he was sold into slavery by a group of Irish marauders. Perhaps this was God's plan to pull many from Satan's captivity.

A slave he was, for approximately six years before escaping to Gaul.
Converted to Christianity, he began to study, under St. Germain bishop of Auxerre twelve years seeking God with his all.

Training hard, giving to God his heart and mind, trusting God to lead, heeding his calling, willingly he did go.
Converted to Christianity, adopting a new name "Patrick", it was, if you don't know.

Once fleeing the pagan land, now desiring to return to win many a new convert.
Denied this wish for a year waiting yet another, as Palladious wore the bishops' shirt.

Praying still, waiting on God's perfect timing, soon Palladious would be transferred to Scotland.
Patrick soon would cause a rift, spreading the true gospel to the Celtic Druids, angering those blinded by Satan's hand.

Successful at turning pagan hearts to the gospel light, soon the Devil would fight.
Sending Patrick to prison time and again, Patrick continued to escape to spread the gospel light.

Ireland a land so bright, so beautiful, yet by Druids marred.
To this land was Patrick called, traveling all throughout, telling of our Saviour's hands that for us were scarred.

Establishing monasteries, churches and schools, Patrick sought to win those who were lost.
Giving his all, a legend he would become, some knowing the cost.

Working thirty years, praying daily without delay, converting a nation it's a job you see.
Praying, for others who are lost, it the job of every Christian, both Patrick, you and me.

A worker was Patrick it's true, tiring he did retire to a place called County Down.
Having tried in vain to win some, having triumphed and won, many destined not for a pleasant town.

Dying in March in the year, 461 AD, around about the seventeenth day, Patrick went his way.
His work on this earth done, opening fast the door that Satan once held tightly shut, having led many astray.

Patrick winning many a lost soul for the Christian faith, beatified by the Catholic Church, called a Saint.
Some forgetting he was but a man, forgetting all true believers are called saints.

Yet, from Ireland were many "snakes" driven, by a man wholly devoted to the God of Heaven above.
Converted from a certain eternal death, "St. Patrick" left for us, and example of undying love.

Converting the walking dead, to eternal life, Satan began at once to spin many a tale.
Seeking to confuse and deceive, Satan soon made this a day of festivities, knowing many an Irishman is given to ale.

Originally a Catholic holy day, a day set aside, to remember a man of God.
It is now a secular holiday, many now forgetting a man, who from the clutches of Hell, to Heaven has gone.

Mnemonic phrases and still a truth is covered and neglected. Satan having become a cicerone-
Yet, the shamrock, it is of a truth an explanation of the Holy Trinity.
St. Patrick, having used this many a time to explain to a pagan nation, a concept, a cynosure of a certainty, of an eternal security-

Wearing green, celebrating with parades many an Irish, celebrate this day, a custom brought to America in the year 1737. In Boston no less-
A busy city, it's true an Irish tradition soon adopted, a laughing and a dancing the devil passes the beer, soon the Proverb is fulfilled "wine it is a mocker", yet so many recidivism blindly return to the horrid mess.

Spring soon in the air, dancing, laughing, and free, forgetting a horrid and dark past-
Hidden by the annuals of time, Satan wanders over, pouring another glass, hoping to deceive yet another cast.

It is but a wish to you my friend to find the blessing that belonged to Patrick. He was a saint it's true.
But my friend if you will truly believe on the name of Jesus Christ alone, you too will be a saint, escaping far from the coming rue.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved so we are told in the scriptures.
Trust not in pagan gods, idols, or any name other than Jesus Christ alone, for your hope of an eternity that is sure.

St. Patrick was but a man, this is true. But my friend his faith in Jesus Christ alone, is what brought him through Heaven's door.
If like St. Patrick, you've been converted from pagan ways then you should pray daily, for your family, your friends, and many more.

It was our sins that nailed Him to that cross.
It was His love that paid the price, for all the damage our sin did cost.

March 17, it is coming, a day to celebrate, a day to remember, a man who committed to win a nation.
A nation converted and won, by faith, determination.

You know my friend, St. Patrick was no different than you or I, he was but a man made of flesh, who took hold the Master's hand.
Imagine my friend if by faith many a professing American Christian would place their life in the Master's hand.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
