About television, this was written back in 2007.

This was a call for content article if I remember right. This was a non-exclusive, which paid the grand total of 3.11 upfront.

Below is a direct to the article, and below that the article itself, please remember to click on the link, and leave a comment under the article.
Thank you very much in advance.

"All My Favorite Television Shows: Influence of Crime, Sex and Entertainment on TV"

I really wish I could think of something to write on this subject but I can not. Or probably not what is really wanted here right now.

So you may be wondering why the title of this article is "All My Favorite Television Shows".
Well I have a reason, believe it or not.

A few years ago, we stopped watching television. There are many reason we quit watching television. From the programs that were on to the commercials.

I really wish there were programs on that I could feel comfortable watching. But right now as far as I know there are not. I do not like to watch shows that are full of cursing, the occult or violence. To me that shows that the person who wrote the program is not very creative. At least in ways that are productive to living a good life.

Many people can come up with television shows or ideas for shows, that have a lot of nudity, (or practical nudity), cursing and violence. Sometimes I wonder if the increase in crime is because people are wanting to act out what they see on television. Or maybe television is giving people ideas of how to commit more and more different types of violent crimes.

The kind of shows I like are the old fashioned shows. Shows like The Walton's, The Brady Bunch, Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, Andy Griffin shows. These shows to me had character, and almost always seemed to have a moral lesson intertwined.

These were good family shows that for the most part you did not have to sit with remote in hand to mute out offensive comments, or language. Now it is easier to just not even have a television in the house. Because even the commercials have much to be desired.

I mean I was at a friends house recently and there were commercials advertising medications for sexually transmitted diseases. (While I know that people get these diseases, is it really something that needs to be advertised on television?) I mean how do you explain sexually transmitted to your child. One that should not even yet be old enough to know much of anything about sexual relations.

Such as a four or five year old who sees the commercial, then says "how do you catch herpes?", or "what is a condom". Why should I have to explain this to a child who may not even be fully potty trained?

Personally I do not think that young children should be exposed to this type of advertising. Because children should not be having sex. This is a subject that should not be put in the forefront of a child's mind. A small child needs to be thinking of things like how to read, count, write, play games, help around the house. Making and keeping friends. Children should be allowed to be children not adults in childrens bodies. To me this is just not healthy.

The shows and commercials I have caught glimpses of during recent years have a lot to be desired. I mean why do toddlers even need to know about sexually transmitted diseases, or the latest feminine hygiene product, or the latest condoms on the market. Or about various diet drugs or anxiety drugs or any number of drugs. Children go to school and hear the teachers say "Just Say No to Drugs", but then they go home and see commercials for a wide variety of drugs!!! Albeit these are prescription drugs but even these are often abused.

(I have seen many of these types of commercials when I have been at friends houses or even just walking through a store such as Wal-Mart or K-Mart where the television are sold.)

Now your probably thinking, but these shows or commercials come on when kids are supposed to be in bed. Well maybe, maybe not. Not everyone sends their kids to bed at eight o'clock. Not to mention these shows come on year round. And some people have televisions in their vechicals that they allow their children to watch as they are travelling down the road.

Then there are the soap opera's, why is it that just about every single soap opera I have ever seen or heard of involves so many people cheating on each other. It seems that these types of programs devalue marriages. I wonder how many people watch these soap operas and decide to give up on their marriage. I think these shows make a mockery of marriage, family and people in general.

It would be nice if more daytime programing was made to show families that talked nicely to each other, valued their families enough to work out any problems. Shows that taught moral lessons, like the value of working, helping others, saving for something you really want.

If the programing available on regular television were to change so that families were shown in a positive light, with familes that worked together to solve problems. And if televsion programs did not have people speaking in a rude manner towards each other. I would be more inclined to buy a new television set.

But everytime I happen to see or hear about the latest television program that includes offensive language, people with practically no clothes on, no values that can be found, nothing positive to be learned or even discovered. I think I will just refrain from buying a new television. Maybe one day the programing on regular television will change. For now I will just save my money. Maybe I will save enough to buy a house.

I hope the programing on television does change because it would be nice to sit down for a relaxing evening of television. Not having to worry that the commercials or show would have offensive content. Or require me explaing something to my child that I do not feel their mind is ready to handle.

The violence that is being fed into many homes everyday through the television set is a contributing factor to people becoming more involed in crimes, and for younger people to want to copy the actions of their favorite movie star. Which might be good if so many were not in the news for doing things they should not be doing.

People in the entertainment industry have the potential ability to turn this whole country around for good. By the shows they are willing to do, and by how they live their lives. People need to have someone to look up to. Not down to. And many people especially young people look up to people in the entertainment industry.

It is better to for someone to try to live a life that can not be condemned than it is to try to fix the mistakes made. Especially if someone lives in the spotlight.

I do think it can be very hard at times for someone to be living under the public eye. But if that person makes an effort to stay out of trouble, (obey the laws). If married don't run around on your spouse and if any problems come up work together to straighten things out. Don't run each other down.

Also don't do shows that glorify violence, or immoral behaviour such as cheating on your spouse or gang violence.

Change can be made in America today for good if more people decide to change the way they themselves view things, and do things. Like the television shows that they are willing to watch and the music they are willing to buy and listen to.

Anyone who lives in the spotlight has the potential to influence many for good, but also for evil. But just because someone is not in the spotlight does not mean they can not change their part of the world for good.

By taking time for others, by being kind, by being helpful, by not taking others for granted, by living a life that can not be condemned you give others something to copy in their own lives. Even if your name is never published in any newspaper or on any television show you can infulence someone's life.

Whereever there are people there are people who are watching to see what someone else is doing. And there will always be someone who thinks what your doing is great and decide to copy you. So it is a very good idea to decide to make your life worth copying.

And remember the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Live everyday as if it's your last, because you never know when or where you will be when you die. The same as you do not know how many lives will be touched or effected by your actions today. It is better to be remembered for a good name than a bad one.

And if you decide to be an actor in a movie be one that shows others how to live a good life even when life is hard. You can do that it just takes effort. More so than doing shows that show the same thing over and over. (Someone killing someone, cheating on someone, violence) Do shows you would be proud to show your great great great great grandma. And don't do any shows you would not want to watch your grandchild doing.

Change can be brought about in many areas of our world if more people decide that violence is not good entertainment.

It may come as a surprise to some, but it is my person belief that if less violence is watched on television some people may have less insomia. I think that if you are constantly feeding yourself a steady diet of violent television programing you are going to find that you don't rest as well as you would if you had instead watched or listened to something that had no violence in it.

So now you know partly why we have not watched much of any television in the last ten or so years. And why we have not really missed it. I no longer have nightmares on a regular bases and I think it is partly because I stopped watching television. I also usually sleep pretty good at night except when my husband is snoring to loudly.

If I hear of or see any programs in the near future that are clean, moral and entertaining I'll be sure to let you all know.
