"Camp Controversial? Camp Plans Clashes with Community Values"
Recently as I was reading the newspaper online, I came across a story about a new camp. This camp had apparently gone unnoticed for the last year or so.
At least a year. Apparently this camp has existed in this particular community, from what some of the commentors on the article have said.
Personally I did not even know about this camp until the story broke the other day. When this story came out on the front page of the newspaper, the article also came with a warning that some may find the article offensive.
Well let's just say that was an understatement. When the paper came out with this story people began calling the newspapers office to cancel subscriptions, people began making many comments under the news article online. (twenty pages of comments last I checked and some have even been deleted)
Posts were made on the Local message board about this. (30 pages of comments last I checked) .
The message board had several moderators online, the message board even shut down at one point if I remember right.
Threats were made and vandalism has been reported at this camp.
The owners of the camp have ordered the camp organizers off the property. The camp organizers have stated they are not going anywhere. The camp owners have hired an attorney.
Apparently the camp organizers do not own this camp ground.
No comment from the camp organizers. The camp owners say they were not told the intentions of the camp also say they are loosing lots of business because others who would of used the camp grounds at other times have cancelled.
Seems to be a big mess brewing basically.
So how did this happen?
Well for starters the camp owners chose a very vulgar sounding name for their camp, and stated they had been turned away from local churches because of their lifestyle. (But they never named any churches that told them to not attend or only attend at lesser attended services.)
Then they also claimed to be Christian at the same time as claiming to be something very much the opposite of what many believe to be truth. In short their claiming to be gay and Christian at the same time made a lot of people angry.
Then with the name they chose it appears they have set out to provoke the community. And what might you ask is the name of this news camp?
Well the name is Camp Lickalotta, with the founders being two lesbian women. Even some in the homosexual community have rejected this particular name.
This is also why some schools did not even pass out the newspaper in the classrooms. Because of the contraveral subject matter.
This camp has now recieved a lot of free advertising and is gaining a lot of attention because of the fact they chose a name they knew would cause strife in this community. Because this community just so happens to be in one of the most conservative areas of the country. Where attention to this lifestyle is normally not promoted. It is instead rebuked as a sin against God and man.
Because according to the Christian faith the two do not go together. It is a perversion of the gospel to say anyone can continue in any known sin without conviction that what they are doing is wrong.
I feel like this was a very bad idea to place this type of camp here. I also feel it was done with the intent of stirring up strife in the local community.
This camp has been the main talk of the town since the story broke in late February of this year. Many people were shocked that anyone would even think to put a camp like that in this area.
But I am not shocked, why because I believe that many churches have forsaken the teaching of right and wrong according to the word of God. I also feel many of professing Christians are not living as they say they believe they should, or even keeping the teachings of their own church.
The only ones who should be shocked in reality are the ones who wanted to promote and organize this camp. The reason they should be shocked is because there are so many "closet Christians" within this community.
If that were not true I do not believe that this camp would of ever gained any ground whatsoever.
Do I feel it is possible the camp owners are being railroaded? I would say yes, because there was never a written contract between the two parties. Also why would they have hired an attorney to help evict these tenants if they were fully aware of what was planned.
I believe this was a con-artist type job, this in my opinion will be very costly in many ways for all of those involved with this camp. And for the community as a whole. There will be no true winners in my personal opinion.
This Camp Lickalotta should rightly have the name changed to Camp Lackalotta sense.
This camp is in my opinion nothing more than a political move on the part of those who have an adgenda that they are wanting to promote and push on to those who disagree with this lifestyle which is a choice. Made by the indiviual.
Camp Contraversal would also be a better name for this camp, placed in an area that is assumed by many to be in a very conservative area.
