A Christmas Poem, from 2008

A Christmas Poem
Have Christ You Accepted?

As the evening fades away
And the morning light has not yet reached the day.

I am reminded of Christmas past
In the fading light of the night

The shadows of Christmases flicker in the twilight
Christmas carols, Christmas dinners, Christmas presents

All is a blur as I reflect on Christmas that have came and went.
This Christmas will be the second Christmas since our son died

Killed last May, no trial as yet for one who lied.
Planning for Christmas last year

A trip to the ocean we planned, but never did the ocean we hear.
As Christmas came, silence dwelt in our home

Silence reflected the tears that from the heart would roam.
This Christmas no presents will we buy

No hearts will cry
Christmas is just another day

A day taken from the pagans to remember another child
A child who lived and died, whose death was not mild

A day retaken by the pagan
As the child who came to die is forsaken

Christmas is meant to be a happy time
A happy time, but not this time

To many Christmases have came and gone
The day is as any other a day that will go on

How a child longs for Christmas day
A Christmas poem, how can I write, there is no way

Christmas reflections bring a " bitterness" for words unsaid
Long past are the Christmases of childhood, echoing words never said.

To regain Christmas past we cannot, as the night fades again we see the lights
The lights of a new Christmas reflecting from the heavens but for one night

As you revisit Christmas this year, remember Christmas was but for a moment in time
A moment in time so long ago, Christ agreed to pay the penalty for all crime.

The gift is yours to accept, to buy this gift you cannot, the price was too high
The gift on Christmas day was prepared for you and for me,

The light is fading fast,
Soon this world will be past

Will you this gift accept? That was purchased for you so long ago.
So few understand that it is not the day which we do not know

But it is the one who gave his all
So in heaven we can walk at all.

Christmas is a holiday taken from the pagans to remember our saviour was born
Pagan bondage has been torn

The bonds of this world have been untied
So why do we in bondage remain tied?

Is it because a gift so simple yet so priceless we know we do not deserve?
A gift so simple yet so priceless, who could deserve?

Who could purchase such a gift as eternal life?
A gift so expensive someone had to die, yet we argue and strive

This gift cannot be free
So to work we go to earn what has already been freely given for you and for me

From heaven the dear saviour is looking down with tears
As one after another we place his greatest gift back under the tree,

Given freely from the heart, to be accepted from the heart
But instead we look for Christmas presents to buy before we depart.

Gifts that we can never reclaim on eternity shores
As all our material gifts are lost, broken and forgotten

The saviour stands at the door and says with tears in his eyes
Why did you not accept my free gift to you...why

The greatest Christmas gift anyone can ever have is the free gift of salvation.
Salvation cannot be won, cannot be lost, and is never by our saviour forgotten.

Salvation has only to be accepted.
Have you the saviour accepted?

Christmas is coming, it is a day of many celebrations it is true
But the greatest celebration is for those who in Christ have accepted

Have you the greatest gift yet received?
