This poem looks much better on the yahoo site than it does here, it is written to make people think, it is also written in memory of my son who passed away, five years ago now, this poem was written back in 2009.

Stepping into the Past
Steps that Can Never Be Taken Twice
Stepping into the past,
Somehow there must be a way...
But, no matter how quickly we turn,
the memories are past.
It is only the steps of today.
only the steps of today that we can burn.
The past is long gone...
Never shall the past be found,
Hurry before today's steps are lost...
We must each day carry our steps on...
Never can we turn around,
the past is to us a lost cause.
So step alively...
It is to the future we run.
Lift your steps and run, the future is just ahead.
Oh, isn't this fun?
The future you cannot see 'till you're dead.
Who can hear the footsteps in the night?
...don't listen too long...
Stepping into the past it can be done.
But those stepping into the past have left the light...
Don't listen too long, as the steps to you may belong...
Only the dead know on which path they are on...
Don't be in a hurry...
the past is lost, the future is ahead.
The present is all we can see, today.
All is past, as in death we are buried.
...soon we will all be dead.
Can't you see it is the steps of yesterday..
echoing through the night...
...it is the steps of those we cannot see...
Life is gone when our heart beats no more.
The steps you walk today will echo in another's memory...
So now forever more close the door.
Between you and me is a divide.
Work while you may.
Hurry do all you can today.
Tommorrow I may venture over to your side.
But as for today, it is here I must stay...
As I continue towards that great divide...please for me pray.
Come what may one day, in the night...
My steps will grow cold and silent.
it is then I'll reach for your hand.
But today it is here I must stand.
Listening to the echo of your memory...
...as you are just out of sight...
